The ask

Ask candidates to commit to long-term funding for Werribee Mercy, and to mental health services in Wyndham.

Recording your view is not open yet, because doing so means collecting a political opinion and we are still settling the legal footing for that. Here is what that means and when it opens. In the meantime, contacting your own representative carries more weight than a tally anyway.

What is going on

The emergency department expansion is real and funded. It sits inside a program whose total estimated cost rose from $236 million in the 2022-23 Victorian Budget to $280 million in the 2024-25 Budget, and the 2026-27 Budget put $95 million toward opening it. Main works began in August 2024 and it is on track for 2026. When it opens it roughly doubles emergency capacity, adding about 25,000 presentations a year.

There is no funded new hospital for Wyndham, despite the phrase appearing in circulation. We say so plainly because a hospital residents believe is coming, and which is not, is worse than one nobody expected.

The second half of this ask, funding for mental health, has no published figure attached at all.
